Welcoming New Smiles
Since 2008, Firas, Susan, and their three young children have called Ottawa their home. Their practice, the Terry Fox Dental Centre, is designed as a family-centered clinic, where every effort has been made to combine the latest in dental care technologies with the soothing comforts of home. The practice is also regularly used as a venue for supporting community initiatives. The Terry Fox Dental Centre is a sponsor of minor sports leagues in the Kanata area and a strong supporter of the Kanata Food Cupboard, raising hundreds of pounds of food over the last few years

Dr. Firas Al Khalili
From a young age, Firas had a strong desire to pursue a career in dentistry. Raised in Ottawa, he later moved to Kingston where he attended Queen’s University and received a Bachelors of Science (Honours) degree. He then went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan. Following this, Firas spent a year at Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, completing rotations in Anesthesia, Emergency Room, General Surgery and Medicine as part of a General Practice Residency Program. Before moving to Ottawa, Firas spent 10 years co-founding and managing a successful dental practice in Michigan. During this time, he was also awarded the distinguished title of Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. In line with his endless desire to learn and to engage in knowledge sharing, Firas also currently serves as a peer reviewer of manuscripts for the Academy of General Dentistry. However, nothing pleases him more than to sit one on one with a patient and to care for them using the best of what he has learned over the years.
Dr. Susan Daftary
Following in her father’s footsteps, a physician from small-town Indiana, Susan has aspired from a young age to serve her community. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University, and later attended Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry where she completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Subsequently, Susan spent a year at Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, completing rotations in Anesthesia, Emergency Room, General Surgery and Medicine as part of a General Practice Residency Program. It was here that she met Firas. Before moving to Ottawa, Susan spent the next 10 years as a co-founder and manager of a successful dental practice in Michigan and as the dental director of a retirement centre. Throughout her career, Susan has always found a way to give back to her community, and has continued to do so to this day as a dedicated dental volunteer for The Ottawa Mission.
Dr. Sarina Ly
Sarina was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, where she completed her Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences degree at the University of Ottawa. She then spent four years in Cork, Ireland, where she graduated from the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Honours) program at University College Cork, National University of Ireland. Sarina is a member of the Ontario Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, and a licensed member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario.
While pursuing her passion for dentistry in Europe, Sarina furthered her love for travelling and experiencing other cultures. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, solving 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.
Sarina is focused on creating friendly and inviting environments while providing exceptional patient care tailored for individual needs. She believes in a minimally invasive and evidence-based approach to dentistry, and strives to make her patients feel as comfortable as possible. She is excited to be a part of the wonderful team at Terry Fox Dental Centre.
Meet the Team
Stephanie (Office Manager)
Stephanie was born and raised in Ottawa and graduated in 2001 from Algonquin College as a Certified Level 2 Dental Assistant. Stephanie worked as a Dental Assistant for 12 years before joining our office in 2013 as our Receptionist / Treatment Coordinator. Since than Stephanie has taken on the role as our Office Manager.
Sarah (Registered Dental Hygienist)
Sarah was born and raised in Arnprior, Ontario. She attended Algonquin College and graduated as a Level II Dental Assistant in 2005. After 2 years of working as an assistant, Sarah returned to school at Cambrian College in Sudbury. She graduating from the Dental Hygiene program and has been working as a hygienist for the past 8 years.
Marvah (Registered Dental Hygienist)
Marvah is a Dental Hygienist and one of the newest members of our team. Marvah graduated from the Canadian National Institute of Health in 2018. Prior to getting her license in dental hygiene, she worked as a Dental Assistant for 6 years. Marvah loves to garden and spend time with her family. As a dental hygienist, Marvah loves to eduate her clients on the importance of oral health.
Tia (Level II Chairside Dental Assistant)
Tia graduated from CDI college in Dental Assisting in 2006. She loves to work with kids and enjoys teaching them how to care for their teeth.
Shelley (Level II Chairside Dental Assistant)
Shelley was born and raised in Roundlake, Ontario. She attended Algonquin College in Ottawa where she graduated from the Dental Assisting program in 2017. She is one of the newest members of our team, who loves helping improve the smiles of our patients and helping to keep their smiles healthy for a lifetime. Outside of the office, Shelley loves to hunt, fish and spending time with her fiance, friends and family.
Office Information
Payment Options
Payment is due when services are rendered. We accept cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard. Our staff will be happy to assist you with your dental insurance by electronically submitting claims to your insurance company on your behalf, or we will help you fill out the necessary paperwork if your insurance company does not accept electronic claims. Generally your insurance company will reimburse you within 3-4 business days.
Confirmation
We know our patients have busy schedules; therefore a courtesy confirmation email and/or call is sent one week prior to your scheduled appointment. We ask that you please be sure to confirm your appointment through email as soon as possible or call the office directly should you need to make any changes to this reserved time.
Late/Cancellation Policy
If you are late for any appointment by 15 minutes or more, you will more than likely be required to reschedule and a missed/cancelled rescheduling fee may apply. Once you have rescheduled an appointment with our office, this time is reserved specifically for you and if you cannot keep this reservationwe ask that you provide us with at least 48 hours ( 2 full business days) notice to allow us time to offer this valuable time to another patient. Without proper requested cancellation notice and/or for missed appointments, a rescheduling fee may apply.
Sterilization & Infection Control
Here at the Terry Fox Dental Centre, we put into practice the highest standards in sterilization and infection control, both for the protection of our patients and staff. Heat sterilization is used for all instruments and hand pieces that are used intra-orally, and powerful disinfectants are used on all other equipment and surfaces. Our heat sterilizer is tested daily and all equipment is maintained on a regular basis. Gloves, masks and protective eyewear are universal precautions and are essential in our infection control protocols.
